Texas Weather

Monday morning, I took this photo at sunrise, with heavy frost on the ground, and 28 degrees. The bird bath contained frozen water. Today, Thursday, it is 74 and sunny. What season is this, anyway?

The Season Begins

Thanksgiving weekend will soon be over, and it is cold and raining heavily today. But the little trees and the Santas are out and about. We like the threat of Santa Web Cams to insure best behavior.

6am: Arts and Crafts

Dianne is off in Louisiana visiting a friend and having some fun, which leaves "just us guys" to hang out for the weekend. Our fun has included seeing Bee Movie in the theater yesterday, grilling hotdogs, and playing tee-ball.

This morning's agenda began at 6am when the boys informed me that it was time for Arts and Crafts. I'm not sure whats scheduled for the rest of the day, but I do know its going to be a long one. :)

The Last Soccer Game

It was pretty much like the others, except that instead of snacks we had a pizza party after the game. Thomas didn't want to play in the game except to defend the goal, which hen did pretty well. And Charles had a few good runs down the field. All in all it was the best game ever.

Fall Color in Texas

Still warm on the porch, and still good pecan pickin' weather, but our Red Oak Tree is showing a bit of color. A very small bit, and then immediately brown.

Rockdale Fair

Photo dump from the weekend...
Rockdale Fair 2007

Nut Hustler and his crew

The crew did a great job yesterday as it was a perfect day in the pecan creek bottom. Today it is windy, cold, rainy and not a day to be in the pasture. The "Nut Hustler" was a good boss, and Dianne was a great sheller, so we ate our fill, and also filled up the bowls and buckets.

The turkeys were curious!

Dallas Fair Time

Trip to the Texas State Fair was fun. Always the best corny dogs! Lotsa cars, trucks. Few tractors, not much agriculture. Fair "lite" -- except for the many food options. Fried peach cobbler? Didn't try it. But there was a butter sculpture.

The First Soccer Game

It was a great day for the boys. Their first soccer game was a blast. They both got to play in the goal, although Thomas for only the last minute.

They both played hard though and had a great time.

Here's a clip of the very first play of the game. I'm trying out Blogger's new video support, but all of the clips have been uploaded to the Pickle page and should look better from there.

And the rest of the photos are up on Picasa.

Strange Breakfast Omen

We had a strange omen this morning. I don't know if its supposed to be a good one, or a bad one (certainly not a good one for the chicken). The day has been neither, which is odd in and of itself considering its Monday...

I'm Batman

Out of the blue tonight Charles announced that he wanted to wear the Halloween costume Dianne bought for him last year. If you recall, Charles didn't want to have anything to do with it at the time, and although Thomas tried it on he cried the minute she put it on him.

Not tonight. As soon as Charles put it on he was a "though guy" and tried to punch Thomas. Then it was Thomas' turn... :)

Remember when?

Remember when you just couldn't wait for the first day of school?

Yea... me neither. But Charles and Thomas sure were excited. And by all accounts, it was a great first day.

All is well...

Dianne and the boys returned on time, safe and sound. The new school year starts tomorrow so Dianne spent all afternoon cleaning the house and getting everything perfect.

I had some time this evening to try to off-load our recent photos and am trying to get some of them organized. So far I have not gotten past our most recent trip to San Antonio.

Oops, They Did It Again

Third time's the charm? I dunno... but the boneheads that are constructing the building next door got yet another truck stuck in our backyard.

Don't Mock Me

As I was watering some of the plants in the backyard tonight, there was a bird (a mockingbird I think) flying around me, harassing me. It was quite annoying and I couldn't figure out why she was being so bold until I got to the hibiscus.

Too cute. I went inside and watched and sure enough she was bringing the baby food, so I hope everything works out well.

Thomas takes a ride!

After putting some hay into the pastures, Thomas decided he could be Tractor Boy and took a ride. Charles was Farm Truck Boy and may try the tractor next time.

Great Dads!

The weekend started with a great rainbow Thursday night, and continued with fun for all. Rain off and on, but good boys, great dads! Michelle and Mark came, Jennifer checked in, and there was bacon, cucumbers for everyone. We appreciated all the attention.

Zoobilee

We took the boys to the Zoobilee at the Houston Zoo tonight. During Zoobilee the zoo is closed to non-members, and they set up special little activities for then kids, snacks, and different options for dinner. We were barley there 30 minutes when the rain came. Thinking it would pass soon, we took shelter at the snack bar where we managed to stay somewhat dry for the hour long wait.

The rain never stopped, but it did let up enough for us to make it to the reptile house, one other indoor exhibit, and then back to the car.
The boys were not able to finish the scavenger hunt that would have won them a prize, but the zoo folks were nice enough to hand them out anyway.

Brilliant!

Our landlord is constructing a new building right next to the house in which we office. On May 15, right after a couple of days of rain, they decided to bring in all the materials. That effort lasted about 1 minute, and the subsequent rescue took about 6 hours.

It finally took a massive tow truck to get the thing out.

So of course, with all the rain that we got last night, they decided what a great day it would be to bring in the concrete.

Brilliant! I'll let you know how they get out of this one if I am here when they finally figure it out.

"If you shake milk long enough...

...it turns to butter." That is according to Charles. I always thought that there was more to it, but the proof is definitely in the pudding butter... its pretty yummy.
